Sugar Tarts Cookie Recipe
The sugar tarts cookie recipe is simple as well as versatile. They can be made to look like an elegant cookie dusted with powdered sugar, a festive cookie sprinkled with color, or topped with a sinfully rich dollop of fruit or chocolate!
Ingredients
2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter, softened
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans
Topping Options:
powdered sugar
colored sugar
favorite jam or jelly
semisweet chocolate chips

Large bowl
Cookie sheets
Mixer
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2: In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar with an electric mixer set on medium-high speed for 30 seconds.
Step 3: Add vanilla extract.
Step 4: Stir in flour, and then chopped nuts. As the dough begins to thicken it may be necessary to use a sturdy spoon for mixing.
Step 5: When blended form dough into 1-inch balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Step 6: Flatten cookies with the bottom of a drinking glass and press tines of fork around edges. If you wish to use a jelly, jam, or chocolate to top these cookies make a small well in the center of each cookie. Then place a small dollop of topping in well.
Step 7: Bake 10-12 minutes or until light golden. Immediately transfer cookies to a cooling surface.
Step 8: When cookies are cool enough to handle , sprinkle generously with powdered sugar.
Makes about 24 cookies.
