Sugar Cookie Recipe
This sugar cookie recipe is traditional with a delicious taste, and great to use with cookie cutters.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cups) salted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Large bowl
Cookie sheets
Plastic wrap
Mixer
Step 1: Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and salt; set aside.
Step 3: In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed.
Step 4: Add the egg and vanilla extract, beat until well mixed.
Step 5: Add flour mixture, beat on low speed just until combined.
step 6: Gather dough into a ball. Flatten the ball into a disk and wrap tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate 1 hour.
Step 7: On a floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/4-inch thickness. With cookie cutters, cut dough into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheets. If desired decorate with colored sugars or sprinkles.
Step 8: Bake for 13-15 minutes, do not brown.
Step 9: Immediately transfer to cooling surface.
Step 10: If decorating with icing, wait until cookies are completely cool.
Makes 36 cookies.
