Sour Cream Sugar Cookie Recipe



The sour cream sugar cookie recipe has a great taste, but is more subtle and flakey than the traditional recipes.

Ingredients
1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 pinch of salt
1/2 cup dairy sour cream
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon peel
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Hardware
Large bowl
Rolling pin
Cookie cutters
Cookie sheets
Mixer

Step 1: In a large bowl, beat butter with an electric mixer on medium-high speed for 30 seconds.
Step 2: Add sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Beat until combined.
Step 3: Beat in sour cream, egg, vanilla extract, and lemon peel until combined.
Step 4: Beat in as much flour as you can, then stir in the rest with a spoon.
Step 5: Divide dough in half. Cover and chill for 1-2 hours.
Step 6: After dough has chilled for allotted time, preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 7: On a floured surface roll out dough until it is 1/4-1/8-inch thick. Using floured cookie cutters, cut out shapes and place 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Step 8: Bake for 7-8 minutes or until edges are firm. Immediately transfer cookies to a cooling surface.

Makes 4 dozen cookies.
