Fruit Christmas Drops Recipe
The fruit Christmas drops recipe has a festive holiday look, but a kicked up fruit flavor. With a splash of lemon and orange flavoring and topped with a cherry half, these cookies will have you coming back for more!
Ingredients
1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter, softened
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon finely shredded lemon peel
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon finely shredded orange peel
1 dash of salt
1 slightly beaten egg white
2/3 cup finely chopped walnuts
13 whole red or green candied cherries, halved
Hardware

Mixer
Step 1: In a medium bowl, beat butter with an electric mixer on medium-high speed for 30 seconds.
Step 2: Add sugar; beat until combined.
Step 3: Beat in egg yolk and lemon juice until combined.
Step 4: Stir in flour, orange peel, lemon peel, and salt with a spoon.
Step 5: Cover and chill dough for 1 hour.
Step 6: Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
Step 7: Lightly grease a cookie sheet.
Step 8: In a small bowl, slightly beat one egg white.
Step 9: In another small bowl, place chopped walnuts.
Step 10: Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in egg white and then in chopped walnuts. Place 1 inch apart on prepared cookie sheet.
Step 11: With your thumb, make a slight impression on the top of each cookie. Place one half candied cherry in each impression.
Step 12: Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately transfer cookies to a cooling surface.
Makes 26 cookies.
