Chocolate Toffee Brownie Recipe
It is hard to tell if the chocolate toffee brownie recipe is really a brownie or a bar. The base has the common ingredients of most bar cookies, but the addition of baking powder gives it a brownie-like texture. What's more important is once the base is topped with chocolate chips, coconut, and walnuts it taste fabulous!
Ingredients
2 cups brown sugar (packed)
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup milk
1 large egg
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup flaked coconut

13x9-inch baking pan

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2: Lightly grease a 13x9-inch baking pan; set aside.
Step 3: In a large bowl, mix together the brown sugar and flour.
Step 4: Using a pastry cutter or two knives, cut in the butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Remove 1 cup of mixture and set aside.
Step 5: To mixture in large bowl, add baking powder and salt.
Step 6: Using a fork lightly beat in vanilla extract, milk, and egg.
Step 7: Continue beating until smooth batter forms. Pour batter into prepared baking pan.
Step 8: In a small bowl, combine the chocolate chips and walnuts, then fold in coconut; set aside.
Step 9: Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture over top of batter in pan.
Step 10: Sprinkle chocolate chip mixture over top of crumb mixture.
Step 11: Bake for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Step 12: Transfer to wire rack. Cool completely before cutting.
