Chocolate Chip Bar Cookie Recipe





The chocolate chip bar cookie recipe was probably the first attempt at baking cookies in a pan. This one is a new take on an old classic!

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup salted butter, cold
2 cups (12 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped walnuts, optional

Hardware
Large bowl
Medium bowl
13x9x2-inch baking pan
Mixer

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2: Lightly grease 13x9x2-inch baking pan; set aside.
Step 3: In a large bowl, combine flour and brown sugar.
Step 4: Cut in cold butter until crumbly mixture results.
Step 5: Stir in chocolate chips.
Step 6: Press firmly onto the bottom of prepared 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
Step 7: Bake for 15 minutes.
Step 8: Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, beat together egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
Step 9: Add remaining chocolate chips and walnuts if desired.
Step 10: Spread evenly over hot crust. Bake 20-25 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool on wire rack before cutting into bars.

Makes 24 bars.
