Chocolate Buttermilk Brownie Recipe



The chocolate buttermilk brownie recipe is cakelike, with a great rich flavor!

Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 large eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk*
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Chocolate Buttermilk Frosting:
1/2 stick (1/4 cup) salted butter
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons buttermilk or sour milk*
2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Hardware

2 x 2-quart saucepans
15x10x1-inch baking pan
Mixer

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2: Lightly grease a 15x10x1-inch baking pan; set aside.
Step 3: In a large mixing bowl whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
Step 4: In a 2-quart saucepan, combine water, butter, and cocoa powder. Bring mixture just to a boiling, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
Step 5: Add chocolate mixture to the flour mixture. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until combined.
Step 6: Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Beat for 1 minute. Pour batter into prepared baking pan.
Step 7: Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Make frosting while brownies are baking.

Chocolate Buttermilk Frosting:
Step 1: In a 2-quart saucepan, combine 1/4 cup butter, 3 tablespoons cocoa powder, and 3 tablespoons buttermilk or sour milk.*
Step 2: Bring mixture to a boil. Remove from heat.
Step 3: Add 2 1/4 cups powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth.
Step 4: Pour warm frosting over warm brownies, spreading evenly. Cool completely before cutting. Store covered in refrigerator.
